Many products lend themselves to a variety of personalization options, such as engraved jewelry or monogrammed textiles. With Webador, you can add custom fields to your products to request additional information from your customers. Product personalization can be made optional for the customer, and you can even add additional costs per custom field.

Step 1

Add a new product or select an existing product via Editor > Webshop > Products and click the product to edit.

Step 2

Go to the Advanced tab and, under Custom fields, click on the + Add field button.

Step 3

Enter a (descriptive) name for the extra field you are about to add. You also have the option to add an explanation regarding the personalization function. This could be, for example, minimum dimensions for any images to be uploaded, or restrictions regarding text input. Click on + Add explanation to complete this, and the explanation will be shown on the product detail page.

Step 4

In the Name field, enter a name for the product personalization option.

Select a Type from the drop-down menu:

  • Multiple choice: Give your customers multiple options to choose from, e.g. ordering a soccer jersey with or without printing. You can also enter any additional costs.
  • Text input: The customer can enter text to be placed on the product, e.g. a name to be printed on a soccer jersey (if the customer opts for a print).
  • File upload: Customers can upload images for printing on stationery, textiles, etc. This image can be downloaded for you as an administrator of the webshop after placing the order.

A product can only be added to the shopping cart when all additional fields have been completed. If you want to offer separate options for a product, such as a custom image or custom text, we recommend listing the product twice, each with one of the options.

You can also easily see which options a customer has chosen, as the information they enter for personalization is shown on orders, invoices, and packing slips.

Choosing both multiple choice and text input for a product may look something like this:

Note: Any values entered in these fields are clearly displayed in the order information, as well as on invoices and shipping labels.

Tip: Unlike product variants, custom fields do not require you to maintain separate inventory for each option.
