When you're building a website, there's little more frustrating than accidentally overwriting important content or deleting a page. However, getting back what you've lost is often easier than you'd expect.

While it only works with websites that have been online for some time, Google and the Wayback Machine make copies of your website fairly regularly.

  • Google Cache: Go to Google.com and type in cache:yourdomain.com as a search query. This allows you to see the latest version of your website saved by Google.
  • Wayback Machine: Go to Archive.org/web and enter your domain name. There may still be copies of your website available and, if you're lucky, you might find lost content that you can copy back onto your website.

If you're lucky, you can still find old texts through this method and copy them to your new website. If not, then unfortunately you are out of luck. There's nothing left but to retype the texts.
